Things to Know

Air

International flights arrive into Mozambique in Maputo and from here there are a couple of options with the domestic airlines or SA Express from South Africa for flights that link the main coastal destinations and ports up the coastline.

Current Airlines arriving in Mozambique

South African Airways (Via Johannesburg )– British Airways ( Via Johannesburg ) – Ethiopian Airlines ( Via Addis Ababa )- Kenya Airways ( via Nairobi ) – Qatar ( via Doha ) – Fastjet - Turkish Airlines ( Via Istanbul )

Visa Requirements

Most passports from outside of Africa require a Visa for entry to Mozambique. It is a 30 day holiday Visa and can be bought on arrival but we suggest pre-purchasing this from a Mozambique Embassy or Consulate prior to travel. Your passport will need 6 month validity and at least 3 free pages.

Train

There are some rail connections in Mozambique but this is not a reliable service and there are fairly regular derailments so we dont consider this a good option for travel in Mozambique.

Self Drive

It is possible to drive around this country and it is quite popular to drive up the coastline, however the road conditions are often a problem though as Cyclones are a common occurrence here, which often will damage the roads and bridges. So make sure you research your route with local knowledge before you decide to do this.
