Air

International flights arrive at Kinshasha as this is the capital however Virunga National Park is the most popular tourist destination so the best way is to arrive there by road from Rwanda - landing by plane into Kigali.

Visa and Entry Requirements

The DRC will require most visitors here to have a Visa which requires letters of invitation from where you will be staying and this all needs to be done prior to travel. A yellow fever certificate is also necessary and vaccination certificates for various diseases if you are wanting to be with the Gorillas

By Road

It is possible to arrange a road transfer company to collect you from Kigali in Rwanda and then get you to the border with DRC and onwards to ether Kahuzi Biega and Virunga. I dont believe it is sensible to travel around DRC on public transport.

Ebola

Ebola is a current and ongoing problem in the North Western side of the DRC. Although it is mostly centered in areas North of where people go and visit the gorillas in Virunga or Kahuzi Biega it is important to understand what is happening there and probably the best source of current info would come from Medecine Sans Frontiers they are on the ground there and are always updating the current information.

Self Drive

The roads in the DRC are very poor and many areas are unstable and you run a real security and safety risk. So I would not reccomend to anyone wanting to drive in there without local knowledge and experience to try and do this. You should use a local ground operator who knows what to do and where to travel.
