Safari Ideas

These are park and area combinations that we feel work well together but we are not fixed to this and can adjust the safari to your specific requirements. Just let us know what you feel seems right and we can discuss and price.

Specialist Safaris

The DRC does have a safari product in the Virunga National Park and Kahuzi Biega National Parks that is worth seeing, however this is not the easiest place to convince people to travel to for the well known security and health risks. So this country is really at this time for the traveler looking for remote and different experiences like climbing an active volcano or to see endemic species of flora or fauna.

Kahuzi - Biega National Park

This is one of the only places left in Africa where you can see habituated Eastern Lowland Gorillas making this a very unique park to visit. It is best accessed from Rwanda and you would stay in a lodge outside the park in the town of Bukavu, travelling into the park each day to trek for the gorilla families. This can either be an add on to a Rwandan safari or you could add to the adventure by travelling by boat with your guide up the length of Lake Kivu to arrive in Goma and the you can do a Mountain Gorilla Trek in that park. Please conatct us if you would like details on how to do this.

Virunga National Park

At present it is possible to do an excellent Mountain Gorilla Safari combined with climbing Mt Nyiragongo - these are set date safaris and I think offer the ebst value for money to see the rare Mountain Gorillas. The actual viewing experience is as good as any thing you would do in Uganda or Rwanda and at a fraction of the price. Please contact us if you would like to consider this option.

Mt Nyiragongo

A unique experience of being able to climb an active volcano and then spend the night on the rim so you can watch the lava lake ( the world's largest ) bubbling and churning away through the night. Its an amazing experience but does require a reasonable level of fitness, the climb up takes about 6 hours and the half this for the way down. When you climb this we reccomend that you hire a porter and chef for the night and they come with all the food and bedding etc that you need for the night, accomodation is in small fibreglass huts that sleep two people with roll out matresses and sleeping bags. Very basic but a fun night out,.
