Parks and Places

Mozambique is primarily a beach destination with top class diving, snorkelling and beautiful wide open beaches, either on the main land or along some of the exclusive islands in the Quirambas Archipelego and within the Bazaruto National Park. The best game viewing is currently in Gorongosa National Park.

Maputo

Mozambique's capital city and one of the old city's of Africa that can trace its history back to the 16th century. As with many African cities you have an eclectic mix of very modern buildings with wealthy suburbs. contrasting with dilapidated and slum areas. There is however some great restaurants and entertainment here so an overnight here to experience and African city can be good fun.

Limpopo National Park

This National Park is part of the huge peace park project that encompasses Kruger National Park of South Africa and Gonarezhou National Park of Zimbabwe and the surrounding areas. This park was settled by people so there are some traditional villages and homesteads along the roads here but people are slowly being moved out and the park trying to rehabiltate itself and recreate the ancient corridors and ranges of the animals that live in these parks.

Gorongosa National Park

This is Mozambique's premier wildlife area - its a wonderful success story of what can be achieved when money and motivation come together to rehabiltate these wild areas. As a park it has a wonderful variety of habitats and an excellent species diversity which is well worth coming to see how nature can rebuild itself given the chance.

Niassa Reserve

Located in the for North of Mozambique on the Tanzania border. This is a remote and vast wildlife reserve dominated by beautiful Miombo type woodland with towering granite inselbergs dotted throughout it. There is a good diversity of species here both animal and birds however it has been badly effected by poaching especially for elephant, so it is a park that is really for the enthusiast looking for an unusual destination to explore.
